Noss Mayo, with its neighbouring village Newton Ferrers just across Newton Creek, reside in the picturesque South Hams area of Devon. The naval city of Plymouth lies ten miles to the west and the well known sailing centres of Dartmouth and Salcombe to the east. There are interesting shops and a market at Totnes, half an hour away. There are very good walks on Dartmoor. Newton Creek is a spur off the river Yealm with its deep water anchorage for local and visiting yachts.
The area is also popular with walkers. One of the favourites is a circular walk of approximately four miles that leads out of the village via the tennis courts, up a steady climb to the coast path. Once the coast is reached, the walking is comparatively easy with views across to Cornwall, the Mewstone and, when there is good visibility, the Eddystone Lighthouse. The path takes one back through the woods along the river estuary and returns conveniently by the Ship Inn.
There are several good beaches within easy driving distance, or the small Cellars Beach on the Yealm estuary which is about a 15-20 minute walk from the village. The villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers and the area in general have much to offer visitors throughout the year.
There is a good bus service from the villages into Plymouth. There is also a local taxi.
